As my first substack post, this is an exciting time at Canal & River Life.

There are almost 5,000 miles of navigable canals and rivers in Britain - 2,700 miles of which are connected up to form a waterways network - and that means there is an enormous amount of canal and river life to share with you.

Whether it’s the boats, the liveaboard lifestyle, the wildlife, interesting walks or the fascinating (and visually impressive) locations along the way - we’ll do our best to bring you engaging content about the waterways you love to be a part of.

The waterways have been a huge cultural and economic force in shaping the country - from medieval trade and fishing, through the industrialisation of the 18th and 19th centuries to the, largely, leisure and lifestyle destinations we see today.
